Raku which originated in Japan is an exciting,low firing technique performed outdoors. The fast firing, and plunging of red hot pots into combustible materials, produces unique finishes that cannot be replicated in any other way. I find it an ideal technique for enhancing surface texture and allowing the form to show through unencumbered by thick glazes.
